The
Phoenix Social Group was set up in 1989 to provide a social life for single,
divorced, separated and widowed people and most of our membership (although not all) falls within these categories. It is run entirely by volunteers;
thus enabling costs to be kept to a minimum.
Our membership is drawn mainly from the Wallingford, Abingdon, Didcot, Wantage, Oxford and Reading areas. There is no actual age limit, but it is anticipated that most members will be over the age of 40. Currently we have about 90 members. Prospective members are welcome to come to these meetings and there is a rota of 'welcomers' organised to put newcomers at ease. Most of our socials events are at weekends - there is something on practically every Saturday and occasionally something arranged for either a Friday or a Sunday too. During the summer there is a programme of barbeques, outdoor concerts and walks, whilst in winter there are trips to the theatre and cinema or meals arranged. Other events include parties, bowling, dances and holidays. We put on 52 weekend events in 2007 and 46 weekend events in 2008 - that is quite an achievement. Membership is £32 per year, plus a initial joining fee of £10 in the first year only. If you would like more information, or are just curious, why don't you come along on a Thursday evening? There is no obligation to join, in fact you can come along for up to 3 Thursday evening meetings and you may also attend 1 'members only' weekend event before you need to join. There is no 'Hard Sell'. See you soon? Contact = Val 01235 816641
